“Saul’s Disobedience and Rejection” {Personal/Life Group Discussion}

Were you able to join us this past Sunday for service?  Rich continues to move through the old testament in the sermon series Epic Story, Epic Author. We are currently in 1 Samuel, and Sunday’s message focused on Samuel’s disobedience and rejection.

If you were unable to attend service, or would like to hear it again, you can listen to the podcast online at: Saul’s Disobedience and Rejection and you can even follow along with the Sermon Notes and print them to jot your own note down on.

Below are the Life Group/Discussion notes and questions from last week’s message.

PERSONAL/LIFE GROUP DISCUSSION

OPENING THOUGHT: Why do we give things to God but don’t obey God?

A THOUGHT FROM PASTOR RICH - 1 Samuel 13 & 15; John 14:15, 21, 23
Like Saul, I often make excuses for disobeying God. I use people or circumstances as excuses to justify my actions and disobedience. “I did this because they did that.” Excuses give me the reason to live my life selfishly. I make excuses because I do not want to take responsibility for my actions. There is no excuse for disobedience to God. Three times in John 14:15, 21, 23 Christ states that obedience to Him is the result of loving Him. Love desires to obey not to excuse. Excuses are not needed when you love and obey God. Jesus said, “Why call me, ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not do what I say?” Luke 6:46. Take responsibility for your life and actions. Love God with all your heart – Matthew 22:37. In doing so, you will have a life worth living: a life that exalts Christ, not a life of excuses!
